This is where match tempo enters. Fast-paced fixtures with high pressing, transitions and attacking intent create more goal-scoring moments per 90 minutes. Defensive mistakes multiply. Yesterday's form is today's prediction. A striker on a two-goal run and a defence bleeding chances in their last three games is a live signal.
Check:
- Attacking output: How many shots on target in the last 5? Has the team's xG per game risen or fallen? Is the key striker/winger fit?
- Defensive bleeding: Goals conceded in the last 5 matches; xG allowed; are injury absences (centre-back, holding midfielder) creating gaps?
- Clean sheets: A team with zero clean sheets in five games is vulnerable. One with four in five is hard to break down.
- Scoreline patterns: Are recent matches 1-0, 2-1, 3-2? Or 0-0, 1-1? Scoreline patterns reveal defensive stability.
A side returning from international break can also be sloppy in the first 20 minutes—a hidden xG spike that inflates goal probability.
BTTS: When Both Teams Score
Both Teams To Score (BTTS) is a tighter prediction than Over 2.5 goals, but follows the same logic. If both teams have:
- Scored in 60%+ of recent matches
- Play aggressive, open football
- Face a defence ranked in the bottom half for clean sheets
...BTTS probability climbs above 55%, making it a viable tip.
Avoid BTTS when one team is in a defensive shell or has a world-class keeper posting a high save percentage. A 1-0 loss is still a loss for BTTS.
