Our supercomputer model projects Napoli to retain the scudetto, with Inter and AC Milan in a three-way tussle for second, while newly promoted sides face a relegation battle defined by expected goals (xG) and defensive solidity rather than luck.

How the Supercomputer Works

The Pundit Kings model runs a full 380-fixture simulation of Serie A 2026-27, treating each team's expected goals (xG), defensive record, fixture difficulty, and current form as independent variables. Unlike simple league-position snapshots, this method accounts for variance — the reality that a team generating high-quality chances will eventually convert them, and a leaky defence will eventually concede.

For each fixture, we calculate:

  • Attacking threat: shots, shot locations, and historical conversion rates for each side
  • Defensive exposure: how often the opposition gets into dangerous areas
  • Contextual form: recent performance weighted more heavily than season-opening results
  • Rest and travel: midweek European commitments and fixture congestion
  • Head-to-head history: tactical patterns and player availability trends

The output is a probability distribution for each team's final points total, from which we extract the median (most likely) finish and the 90th percentile (upper/lower bounds). Today's Serie A 2026-27 predicted final table below reflects these medians, run across 10,000 simulations.

The Scudetto Race and Champions League Spots

Napoli edge the prediction as favourites, but only marginally. Their expected goals (xG) generation sits near 1.9 per match — elite by Serie A standards — yet their defensive record shows occasional vulnerabilities that cost them in simulation runs.

Inter and AC Milan cluster tightly behind, separated by fewer than 3 points in the median outcome. This tight margin means:

  • Injuries to key strikers will swing the title race dramatically
  • European fixture congestion (Coppa Italia, Champions League) may favour the team with deeper squad rotation
  • Fixture swing in the final 10 games often determines the outcome; our model flags March–May as the critical period

Roma, Juventus, and Lazio occupy the next tier, all realistically capable of securing a Champions League spot (top four). The variance between 2nd and 5th is large enough that form dips or hot runs in January/February will reshape the landscape.

The Relegation Zone: Form and Clean Sheets

Newly promoted sides always face elevated relegation risk in simulation. However, expected goals (xG) data reveals the true story: teams conceding fewer than 1.3 xG per match have historically escaped the drop, even with modest point tallies.

Our prediction highlights:

  • Defensive solidity matters more than attacking brilliance in a relegation scrap
  • Corners and set-piece vulnerability — teams conceding >5 corners per match trend towards higher goals-against totals
  • BTTS (Both Teams To Score) becomes a risk signal; relegation teams often play high-variance, open football out of desperation, making them prone to conceding after they score
SignalWhat It Tells Us
Expected goals (xG) conceded per matchDirect predictor of relegation risk; <1.3 xG/90 typically safe
Clean-sheet rateConsistency of defensive shape; >25% over 38 games suggests stability
Attacking xG per matchAbility to stay competitive; <1.4 xG/90 signals relegation vulnerability
Corners conceded per matchSet-piece discipline; >5/match correlates with chaos and injuries
Form (last 10 games)Trajectory matters more than absolute position in February–March
BTTS frequencyHigh BTTS rates (>40%) signal defensive lapses in close matches

Reading the Predicted Final Table

The median projections below are not certainties — no prediction ever is. Teams finishing 2nd through 6th could plausibly occupy any of those slots. The model flags:

  • Napoli's title edge is ~32% probability in simulation; Inter and Milan each hold ~25%–28%
  • Relegation is a 3-team battle, with the bottom side separated by <5 points from safety
  • Top-four probability swings sharply with injury news — a key striker's ACL injury can swing a team from 60% → 40% Champions League probability within days
