VIP Predictions Explained — How Calls Are Chosen
---
Our VIP predictions are filtered from the full day's fixture list using a three-layer model: we exclude low-liquidity or poorly-tracked markets, apply statistical thresholds (xG differentials, form momentum, historical corner/goal patterns), and publish only selections where the probability case is clearer than our baseline confidence floor — then track every call openly against results.
The Fixture Filter: Not Every Game Makes the Board
Not every match today qualifies for a VIP prediction. We start with the entire day's schedule, then remove:
- Dead or suspect markets — leagues with thin data, recent structural changes, or integrity concerns
- Mismatched fixture quality — reserves, friendlies, or one-sided contests where prediction value collapses
- Late-breaking lineup news — if a key player is ruled out minutes before kickoff, a pre-written prediction loses statistical validity
This culling typically cuts the fixture list in half. What remains are the games where we have enough historical depth, recent form data, and market liquidity to build a genuine probability edge. A VIP prediction only appears if the underlying case clears that bar — not because a match is famous or televised.
The Three Core Signals We Weight
| Signal | What it tells us |
|---|---|
| Expected goals (xG) | Quality and volume of chances; reveals whether shot maps align with scorelines |
| Recent attacking form | Goals scored and shot creation in last 5–10 games; trend direction matters more than one result |
| Recent defensive record | Goals conceded and clean-sheet frequency; consistency is the signal, not a single shutout |
| Set-piece efficiency | Corner conversion rates and corner volume trends; corners often more stable than open-play goals |
| Head-to-head patterns | Historical trends in this fixture; repeat matchups have measurable patterns in goals, BTTS, corners |
Expected goals (xG) is the spine. If a team has generated 12 xG in their last three games but scored only once, either they're unlucky or finishing will regress toward the mean. Conversely, a team with 4 xG and four goals is likely overperforming — and may cool. Attacking form alone tells half the story; we cross it with the opponent's defensive xG conceded and clean-sheet rate to build a probability for Over 2.5 goals or BTTS.
Corners are a separate model. They're more stable than goals because they're driven by width play, pressure, and territory — not finishing quality. A team that corners consistently under a specific manager, in a specific league, will likely do so again today.
Why Open Predictions and VIP Predictions Differ
Pundit Kings publishes daily predictions with a verified public results record you can see on our results page — both open calls (on us, no card needed) and VIP member picks.
Open predictions are typically:
- Highest-conviction calls with the widest appeal
- Often single-outcome markets (Winner, Over/Under 2.5 goals, BTTS Yes)
- Published on our main board
VIP predictions go deeper:
- Niche or combination markets (e.g., "Over 10 corners AND BTTS", "Winner + Over 1.5 goals")
- Smaller field sizes where statistical edge is sharper
- Predictions on mid-tier or regional fixtures where data advantage compounds
- Multi-game prediction combinations that reward research
Both are built on the same methodology. The difference is scope. A VIP member gets access to the full day's predictions across all markets and leagues — not just the headline games. That's where volume and consistent probability work in your favour over time.
Transparency: We Track Every Call
We don't hide results. Every prediction — right or wrong — appears on our public record. You can audit our strike rates, market-by-market accuracy, and seasonal trends yourself. That honesty matters because no prediction is ever guaranteed. Form changes, injuries shift outcomes, and variance is real. What we measure is whether our methodology produces more wins than a baseline expectation over a season.
